2007 Organizational Overview/Parental Expectations

1. Introduction and Accomplishments

  • Last year, 2006, we supported 19 teams with approximately 220 girls participating

  • Over the last 13 years the DLH’s has had:

o        91 teams qualify for the AAU Division I National Championship Tournaments, with 54 of these going as Ohio AAU State Champions

o        52 teams have advance to the Elite Sixteen at AAU Nationals, with 9 National Champions, 9 National Runner-ups, and 3- 3rd Place National Finishes

o        In 2006 alone, DLH had 3 of the 9 possible Ohio State Championship Teams, and also qualified (7) additional teams (4 of these were state runner ups) for Nationals for a total of (10)!

2. Typical Season

  • Tryouts take place in late February or early March for 9’s -13’s and late March for 14’s and up. 
  • Teams are selected by coaches during three days of OPEN tryouts. 
  • Coaches usually keep 10-12 girls per team.
  • There are usually at least two teams selected and sometimes up to four. 
  • After tryouts are completed teams will collect a team fee from each player determined by the coach based on number of players on the team, cost of practice facilities, tournament fees, coaches travel expenses and any other team expenses. 
  • Teams will generally practice twice a week around the greater Dayton area based on where the coach or players have access to gym time.
  • Games are played by entering tournaments that take place on weekends.  This is up to the individual coaching staffs to determine how many and what weekend tournaments your team will travel to.
  • Most teams will play between six and ten tournaments for the year. 
  • The only tournaments that we “DLH” require our team’s participation in are the OHIO AAU district tournaments and the AAU Division I National Championships if your team qualifies.

3. Player Expenses

·         Black team players initial fee is approx $450.00. 

·         White, Red & Gray team players initial fee is approx $350-$400.

·         ALL OF YOUR MONEY GOES INTO YOUR TEAM’S ACCOUNT

·         This fee is used to cover team expenses such as:

o        coach’s expenses for hotels, phone calls, and general travel expenses

o        tournament entry fees

o        practice gym rental time if applicable (this could significantly impact your team expenses)

o        team incidentals such as postage, copying paperwork, etc.

·         This fee DOES NOT cover:

o        Players travel expense, hotel rooms or meals

o        Uniform or any DLH apparel

4. Fund Raising

  • Each player will be given $125 worth of raffle tickets to sell.  The raffle is 25 tickets to be sold for $5.
  • Your family keeps the money. 
  • Your daughter has the option to sell the tickets to help offset the fees to participate.  If you do not wish for your daughter to sell the tickets, you may complete the entry portion of the tickets with your name. 
  • The winning raffle will be drawn during our coach’s party in August. 
  • Teams can do individual team fund raising with coach and organization approval.

5. Tournaments

·         DLH will host two tournaments this year: SRT AAU Tournament April 13, 14 & 15th for U-9- U13’s April 20, 21 & 22nd for U14 – JE’s. We will also be hosting the Div. II 11U AAU National Championships June 29th thru July 7th We will need everyone’s support for this to be a success!

·        Every Family is expected to work the DLH tournaments that your team plays in!  

6. Once the teams are finalized, GET INVOLVED!! 

  • It takes many people to make this organization successful. 
  • Each team will need a parent to handle each of the following:  the raffle tickets, uniform disbursement, apparel ordering and disbursement, travel arrangements, team treasurer, tournament work schedules, and anything else the coach would need help with.

7. MANDATORY PARENT MEETING!! 

  • All players and at least one parent must attend this meeting. Each team MUST have one parent co-coordinating their team’s uniform and apparel orders by this date.  That parent MUST be present to consolidate orders.

·         U14’s-U19’s - Sunday, March 25 – Time TBD – meeting at 5:00, uniform & apparel ordering 5:30-6:30

·         U9's-U13's - Sunday, March 25 – Time TBD – meeting at 6:30, uniform & apparel ordering 7:00-8:00
